Lots of Show, Very Little Rain

The monsoon has arrived in Arizona. What does this mean? Well, it means that it should cool off. We are looking forward to temperatures dropping to 105! But the drop hasn't happened yet. Last time I checked it was 109 with 20% humidity. Even with the air on (the one that is still working that is) my poor cat Homer was miserable. He kept looking for a place to get cool, and not finding one. He was panting and flopping all over. You see, he is a VERY fluffy cat, and he never shed his winter coat this year. He finally gave up and climbed into the air conditioning vent (which we keep open just for him)

What else does the monsoon mean? A little rain. A very little rain. Mostly a lot of noise and lots of wind and dust. People tend to lose roofs during this season. Trees get uprooted. And there are lots of lightening fires. But surprisingly little rain. And when that little rain hits, everyone on the road forgets how to drive. I swear, one drop of rain on the roads, and people lose it! The drive 10 MPH to avoid hydroplaning. Accidents are everywhere. It doesn't help that no one's windshield wipers work. We all replace the rubber on our wipers each year, for the one week of sprinkles. And by the time the next rain comes around, they need to be replaced again. The extreme heat here just disintigrates the rubber.

The other phenomenon that the monsoon brings is motorists stranded in washes. Even a little rain causes all of the washes to run. Every monsoon there are reports on the news about fools who thought they could cross the running water. Then they get stuck, and a helicopter has to come lift them out. And all of the news stations set up on the side of the road because this constitutes BIG news.

So here we go, monsoon season again. All one week of it.

Dena, you just described Vegas to a TEE! Monsoon season (or any bit of rain, for that matter) magically transforms crappy drivers into freakin' crappy drivers! And yes, they're the ones stranded in the wash as well. "It didn't look very deep." Hahaha!

Hang in there Dena! At least it only lasts about a week, right? Stay safe with all the crazy drivers!

I always figured a "monsoon" would bring *tons* of rain with it!!! As for the idiot drivers, we have that here and it rains all the time! LOL We call it "stunts"....you can just tell it is going to rain b/c people start pulling the stupidest stunts and cutting you off, pulling out right in front of you when there is not a car in sight behind you, etc.....then when the rain starts, look out, it's as if they lose their minds......

Hopefully the heat will break for you. It has been unbearably hot & humid here with no end in sight...poor Harry Winston can pant up a storm just by running up the stairs - with his big giant fat head he gets hotter faster b/c he has so much padding and most like a very tiny passage for air, etc.......we are thinking of getting him a "Cool Mat" to try and keep him cool...even with AC he gets so hot.....
